So recently I've been really busy. I've recently moved to London and I'm still settling down but I have better plans for the blog and as soon my sewing machine's here with me or I cheat on her with another one I'll be updating with new tutorials and all the stuff I've been working in for my Winter's wardrobe (even though you feel kind of lazy when you have an amazing shop at every single step)

But my flat mate, who is adorable and one of my BF is kind of obsessed with Rihanna. Obsessed to the level he managed to make me hum under my breath her songs all of the time, I really need to buy headphones so I can listen to my music without being poisoned by pop, but either way I have to give this kind of music the credit of doing amazing video clips. Really enjoyable, so I've decided to make a list about amazing costume design in video clips.

5. The amazing thing about Hole is that there was not costume design behind. They're just punk kids, it was the 90's and grunge was big. The result is that Courtney Love's black-white collar dress is a must have for lot of girls.

4. Terry poison. They're like the funniest girl band I've ever heard, and always amusing our parties and it reminds me of Valencia, and my friends who always used to Dj it for me when they were working.

In my to do list is still a feathers hairband. As soon I have time I'm doing one for myself.

3. Hola a todo el mundo is a Spanish band from Madrid that had managed to merge together the folk of Devendra Banhart and electronic music.

They're F**ing amazing. And this is a great video. There's not much about costume design, just regular clothes but they give it a folk hint that make you fall in love with it. And obvio, the song... is amazing.

2. When we talk about fashion, We found love in a hopeless place actually makes you feel as if you were in the late 80's, with the rave movement starting and just wishing to chop off all of your sweaters, being partying all day long and having a boyfriend as handsome she has in the video... and obviously skipping the whole drugs part.

1. When I grow up I want to be Juliette Lewis. She did it first and she did it better. Fact.

Don't get me wrong, they're a lot of female rock/punk musicians I love like Katheleen Hanna, but we're talking about fashion. And in 2006 Juliette Lewis managed to bring back The Runaways vibe.

I know I left a lot of clips behind, but let's be honest here, this would had end up being a Cindy Lauper post cause I always wanted to wear a white wavy skirt and dance in sync with my friends while 80's music sounds in the background.

Skiss A/W: The Infinity dress

So while I was working in the Skiss upcoming collection this summer I was reading a lot of fashion magazines and blogs who told me that the next in thing was going to be the late 70's, well, this is one of the dresses we came up with, and as in the late 70's in Spain we're suffering the second big crisis in our country and what's better than having a polyvalent dress that you can wear in many different ways.

Today we introduce you the infinite dresses collection. This is the first one (and a personal fav)

1. The original model with a belt.

2. We didn't want our model to melt so we forgot about the leather jacket that could go perfect with this outfit and put her one of the sweaters of our collection.

3. We put a pin in the back, joining together the two sides. The dress now looks more fancy but you can make it more informal if you wear it with a floppy hat or a suede jacket.

Being an outsider is kind of cool

The first time I heard of Band of outsiders was reading an old review of Pulp Fiction in one of my dad's music magazines.

I was like a nutcase looking for a copy of the Jean Luc Godard's film that had inspired the dancing scene between Uma Thurman and John Travolta.

Obviously the film was awesome.

The second time I heard of Band of Outsiders we were speaking about fashion. Someone was telling me to check out the brand's lattest collection...

Obviously the name said it all.

The models looked like a brand of outsiders, maybe a bunch of kids wearing clothes 90's inspired but at the same time with the freshness Grunge should have in 2011.

Without the need of the so much used and abused holes Scott Sternberg had achieved something I've been looking for too long, something grunge but at the same time quirky and obviously different in its elegance.

As I kept looking into their web and their 2011 fashion show I kept falling in love with everything over and over again. Not only the clothing is awesome but it has a remarkable quality.

Obviously his price tags go way over my budget but the way of put all of them together have become an inspiring folder in my laptop.

Falling in love over again

Besides of the lack of a shop in Spain where you could find Jeffrey Campbell, now we have Ulanka with insane prizes and free delivery expenses which actually was solving reason 1 and 2 of why I hadn't buy a pair of Jeffreys yet, now reason 3 is solved because Jeffrey Campbell has launched their Vegan-friendly collection that you can find in Convert.

It's not a worldwide collection yet but I hope it grows soon.

So many talent joined friday afternoon in Valencia:

First of all, Sutja Gutierrez who is... he is... he is the next best thing. I'm telling you, the guy's awesome, his music's awesome... till the point my mother danced and enjoyed this song as if she was 20 again.

And then, Sergio who sometimes I think is just in my mind and that's why he's able to come up with this wonderful posts in his blog. With gif images, videos, and mostly tons of art... he's just that kind of person who seems to have the perfect perspective of everything and that's why he manages to make everythign look so great under his view!

El Aaansia Dj Set, who besides of being great DJs, they have the funniest music blog. Take a look, is hilarious.

As usual I've been kind of missing, but this time it's because the project I've been working in. I'm glad to announce that I'm starting our very own label with two other friends.

We join our different talents in a label:

Julia Prat, who is an amazing talented illustrator and it's going to do the drawings for our T-Shirts that would join together design and also a different patterning and materials.

Secondly Milena Molina, who is a Fashion Design Student. She would work with me in the creation of the clothes.

And finally me. You know what I do already.

The concept of the label it's joining my very abandoned but yet again shyly successful X gone Y label, now under the name SKISS... or not. We hadn't think about that yet. The thing is that we'll have more active tutorials in the blog with the help of Júlia and Milena. And there's a huge part of or collection that it's about recycled clothes.

So... today, we close X gone Y but...

Spanish Revolution,

So I've been very busy lately, with my internship, job and working in the project. But somehow, maybe because I was very interested in it, I found time to join the II Spanish Revolution we're working on here.

Tired of the political and economic situation of our country we kind of woke up and since 15 May thousand of hundreds of people are meeting in the principal squares of our country...

BARCELONA

SEVILLA

VIGO

And of course in Valencia, we're meeting every single day in the Town hall Square, where we share ideas as in every other Assembly around the country...

And the amazing it's happening. People of all the ages, conditions or political affiliations are sharing a common believe: we're not happy, we're tired to be lied to and we let you "deal" with our situation and we're sick of you just worrying who would win the next elections... things could be better, and we're making them better... and slowly this feeling of indignation it's been spreading around the world.

And I keep getting more news of more and more cities: 700 people met in Brussels, Mexico DF, Helsinky, Rome...

Today I've heard someone refer to us as a virus... and hell take a look at the map... we're, and proud of it.

Because we give the politicians the power... and it's about time we act on their indifference and lies.

I've never felt so proud of being Spanish and a little part of it. Maybe it won't work, but we're trying. And always, a tryout, remains as a part of history. I can't believe I'm living history this way. I mean, I know every day something happens that our grand children would study... but the day of tomorrow, they would ask me where was I while this was happening and I could tell them: I was there, shaping your future with hundreds of thousand of people more.

The rest of our lives starts and it's being shaped right now...

First day of internship

So I had just started my internship in a Traditional Valencian Dressing Studio or wich is the same, a place where they do Fallera's typical dresses.

It's amazing.

I was kind of upset at first because I was supposed to do my internship with a Valencian fashion desingner, but I love the switch.

I'm learning how to do corsets (Which is the most important part of it) and I'm making my project joining two concepts: their traditional (and sometimes annoying) system; their fabrics, which are kind of similar to the foulard I'm wearing in the pictures and one of my favourite periodes in fashion design, the 80's.

Which would be something like joining this two pictures.

I'll tell you about it in the future.

I know this summer is all about the 70's... but I like to stick as an outsider ;D.

Hoy Dani, me ha nominado para una meme, y aunque el pensaba que iba a ser un poco rollo me ha venido de perlas porque esta semana no he hecho mucho, mas que salir y hacer el guiri por Valencia con una amiga que ha venido de visita para ver las fallas.

Asi que ahi van las preguntas:

1. ¿Cual es tu reto?

Vivir algún dia de lo que me gusta.

2. ¿Que le dirías a tu jefe si te tocara la lotería?

Nada, si tuviese un buen trabajo que me gustase continuaria trabajando pero sin el miedo al despido o a llegar a fín de mes. Si fuese en mi trabajo actual le diria que le compro acciones de la discoteca que funciona bastante bien.

3. ¿Que harías si descubrieras que alguien te esta mintiendo?

Nada. Me daria tanta pena que lo ignoraria. Uno solo miente cuando se siente inseguro y no hay nada peor que sentirse inseguro.

4.¿Si se quema tu casa y sólo pudieras salvar una cosa, qué salvarías?

Mi máquina de coser Alfa de 1959 y mi libro de Historia de la moda del Instituto de Kyoto. Són dos regalos muy importantes, posiblemente porque me los hicieron sin preguntar que me apetecia tener y simplemente me los dieron pensando en mi.

5. Entras en un sitio con mucha gente, ¿qué haces?

Salir en cuanto pudiese, mido 1,56 asi que logicamente odio las aglomeraciones, siempre salgo herida.

6. ¿Ves el vaso medio lleno o medio vacío?

Siempre medio lleno, tengo la suerte que en cuanto las cosas van mal muy pronto se ponen mejor, asi que soy optimista por naturaleza... o por experiencia.

7. Te encuentras una lámpara mágica, ¿qué tres deseos pides?

El final de cualquier conflicto bélico que esté teniendo lugar, si, se que es típico, pero realmente lo pediria.

Que el PSOE volviese a ganar las elecciones pq la mera idea de ser governada por un partido que discrimina socialmente a colectivos de nuestro pais me aterra.

Y el tercero se lo daria a mi madre, que seguramente pediria que a todos sus hijos les fuese bien en la vida.

8. ¿Cuál es tu mayor miedo?

Decepcionarme a mi misma.

9. ¿Qué te hace feliz?

Vivir y la libertad de hacer lo que quiera, es decir, el libre albedrío otorgado al ser humano por nacimiento. Cursi, lo se, pero hay lugares donde no tienen la misma suerte que nosotros.

10. ¿Consigues sacar un minuto para ti cada día?

1, 10, 15, 20... soy afortunada.

11. Si pudieras reencarnarte en animal, ¿cuál serías?

Una vaca sagrada en la India o la siguiente mascota de Paris Hilton.

12. ¿Cuál es tu recuerdo más feliz?

No podria elegir sólo uno...

13. ¿En qué ciudad vivirías y por qué?

En Austin, Texas. Me encanta el clima y la mezcla de culturas. Es una ciudad cosmopolita a la par que familiar.

En mi madre.

15. ¿Qué sientes cuando creas?

Plenitud y excitación por ver el producto final.

16. ¿Te gustaría conocer tu futuro?

Soy una firme creyente en la continuidad lineal del tiempo, es decir, estamos en un punto y el siguiente se tiene que escribir, por lo que me alegro de conocer mi pasado a fin de que este afecte al punto siguiente.

17. ¿Qué otros nombres de blog te has planteado antes de decidir éste?

La verdad esque no lo recuerdo...

18. ¿Crees que se pueden hacer buenos amigos a través del mundo blogger que frecuentas?

Un verano en el colegio (No recuerdo a que edad exactamente) nos hicieron elegir un autor de una lista y leer algunas de sus obras. Yo elegí a Maria Gripe... y no me arrepiento, cualquiera de sus libros son algo que todos los jóvenes deben leer, mis favoritos por orden fueron: El ciclo de las sombras, Hugo y Josefina y por supuesto Agnes Cecilia.

Durante la adolescencia, Los Pilares de la Tierra, Mrs. Dalloway, How the García girls lost their accents y La campana de cristal (The bell jar) me marcaron.

1984 y Farenheit 451 porqu me encantan las historias distópicos, y el último libro que me ha gustado ha sido On the Road, de Jack Kerouac.

Valencia Fashion Week or how I managed to miss every single show I wanted to watch.

I kinda missed my favs. Yeah, I was around the VFW as usual, but I managed to miss some of my favourite designers.

The most important ones, were doing performances at 12:30 in the morning... and as much I had tried for years to be in time for the morning shows I never, absolutely never accomplished it... mostly if Jose isn't picking me up as usual.

And if you add up the fact that Absolut Vodka was the Sponsor of the Kissing Area... well, let's just say that I rather go with the online videos than actually try to remember whatever I saw... cause I had as many as possible FREE gin-vodkas I could... (Bloody Maries if it was lunch time)

So let's enjoy together a little bit of what I actually missed... or was... whatever...

Obviously, whoever was recording this was following Diego alll around, he's the second to last guy. It's just the carousel but you can take a look to her upcoming A/W collection there and in the link above.

We fell in love with her collection when she was participating last year in Zona D.
We saw her collection, we fall in love with it, and afterwards we fall in love with her when she won and couldn't make a word. It was just amazing.

And as favourites shows I managed to watch and enjoy I must make a mention to Julio Almiñana. I didn't know the guy but his idea of put a dancer in the middle of the catwalk and made the models look at her with hate totally rocked it...

If you're Spanish you maybe know them from Trendtation. They were the closing, pretty good for being their first time in Valencia, uh?
They're a couple of amazing girls from Madrid. They mix tons of cultures in their designs and are able to spawn things as awesome as these:

And as usual, while this was happening I was in my way... in a bus... opposite direction may I add.

And of course, Siempre Es Viernes. Not only their collections are fun and refreshing, but the guys are awesome. They're unique. I had the chance to meet them last s/s and they were the most polite and nice designers in the backstage. There was tons of black in all of the collections, but they managed to give it the funny touch they give to all their clothes. REFRESHING! That's what we all thought... but the grannies that managed to screw the whole show with their comments about how everything was filled of holes, speaking about that... PLEASE, STOP GIVING INVITES TO OLD WOMEN... IF THE BUS ARRIVES TO THE PLACE WHERE THEY'RE INVITED FOR FREE YOU CAN BET YOUR ASS THEY WOULD BE ATTENDING!!!

And coming back to Siempreesviernes... amazing, uh?

And I spent a whole week fantasizing about the scarf/hood/whatever it was thing the models were wearing in their heads...

And I got inspired...

And this is what I came up with

Esta tarde me he tomado la libertad de ver en algunas webs las propuestas de los diseñadores para la temporada P/V.

Interesantes.

Colores neutros, pero tambien flúor.

Seguir llevando la ropa interior fuera, las transparencias!

Los 70 estan aqui de diversas formas. En los pantalones de pata de elefante.

combinados con plataformas.

Otros han optado por la parte preppy de los 70. Diseños que recuerdan a la America Suburbana de finales de la decada.

y los hotpants... lo que me lleva a pq no he actualizado mucho ultimamente.

Son seis basicas razones... que implican el tambien vivir un poco la vida. Divertirme y estudiar a la vez. Todo combinado con trabajo y mi vida personal, te lleva a en ocasiones tienes elegir tus prioridades. En que quieres gastar un par de horas de tu vida... hacer una sesion de fotos para el blog o ir a tomar una cerveza con tus amigas? Leer una revista de moda en el autobus o La Septima Muerte del Che... Que ese autobus te lleve a casa de tu abuela para pasar toda una tarde en la que no haras nada mas que hablar y hablar y hablar sobre Salvame XD....

Prioridades que aveces te perjudican, y como ya sabeis, siempre dejo en ultimo lugar el blog.

6. Perfeccionando el patron del mono con hotpants. Sera a la octava la vencida y quedaran asi?

Porque sigo soñando con prendas de este estilo. En terciopelo, saten, con cuellos y mangas distintas mezclando conceptos.... pero parece que no logro conseguir el largo de talle apropiado para todas las tallas. Y me cabrea...

5. He estado intentando teñirme el pelo para lograr un rojo bastante fuerte. No esta funcionando mucho. Mi pelo sigue repudiando el tinte a los tres lavados asi que es posible que pronto me quede calva... pero si no arriesgas no ganas. Creo que hacer el proyecto sobre el Grunge y aprender sobre ello me esta haciendo una inconsciente.
Aunque aveces lo pienso y quizas deberia seguir la moda y ponerme con colores mas pastel, como el rosa, gris... gris azulado? e incluso salmon. Ayer vimos Olvidate de mi y cada vez me gusta mas la idea...

I've been working in my hair to get a shocking shade of red. I don't really know how is it going to look, or if I'm going to go bald before we're done with it, but whatever. Making the project about punk is kicking out my wild side. Or maybe I should go for the season's trend of pastel colors like white or gray and just go for the pink... maybe salmon. Yesterday we watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and I thought about it and actually liked the idea.

4. Zapatos. Sigo buscando zapatos que me digan algo... fui feliz durante un par de horas con los zapatos de Jessica Simpson, (Lo mejor que ha hecho esta mujer en su vida es diseñar zapatos) todo para que una vez hecho el pedido, descubra que no envian a España. Asi que hemos hablado (aun no concretado) sobre una visita a Elche, en Valencia. Tierra de Zapateros, Outles de diseñador y donde casualmente Jeffrey Campbell fabrica sus zapatos... lalalala

Shoes. I'm still looking for shoes... I was happy for a while when I saw the sales in the Jessica Simpson page, (my prejudices forgave me to enter in the page before when is actually the best thing she ever did) but once I went to the checkout I found out I couldn't buy them because they didn't mail to Spain. So, we talked about making a vissit to Elche, a town next home. There are tons of shoe factories and causalities and the good quality of they work lead Jeffrey Campbell to put his factory there... lalala (8)

Esta temporada, al fin hay plataformas y para las pies planos-llevadoras de converses durante toda su adolescencia como yo nos vienen bien. Son comodos y bonitos.

This season we're speaking about platforms. And I love it, cause I've been wearing Chucks ever since I was 10 so I'm not really good at walking on high shoes. They're comfy and cute and I can't wait to start searching the net for some.

3. Pamelas. Ay las pamelas. Han alegrado el invierno y siguen en verano, para portegernos del sol. Yo ya tengo una, no creo que me compre otra.

Pero me gusta el rollo colorido de Marc Jacobs.

2. Tunicas. I don't think I have to justify myself. Tunics are cool. I always thought it, now I'm sewing them for me for the summer with sheer fabrics and tons of layers wich is cheap and fresh.

1. Descubrir a Laura Ashley. Fue una diseñadora de tejidos, pero que tambien hacia vestidos. Siempre con un toque naif y con una gran calidad en los tejidos y acabados.
Sus vestidos recuerdan a los de Luella pero a precios mas modicos y con un aire vintage. A mi me ha inspirado en crear los 3 vestidos que quiero esta primavera. Ahora solo me faltan los tejidos. :D
Discover Laura Ashley. She was a textile designer, but she also made dresses. Always with a naif touch and a great quality. Her dresses remind me of Luella's but cheaper and with a lovely vintage touch. I've got inspired into designing three dresses for this summer. Now I just need the fabrics.

Moda sin crisis.

La crisis esta agudizando el ingenio de tod@s.

En valencia la gente se mueve, como supongo que en todas vuestras ciudades, y continuamente se organizan quedadas abiertas a todo el mundo para intercambiar ropa, porque como el lema dice: lo que para ti es basura, para otros es oro!

Gente de todas las edades y clases se reunen por distintos puntos de la ciudad para intercambiar prendas y otros objetos multiples.

Y dentro de colectivos de gente que vende o intercambia ropa, esta el caso de Las 3 Marias. Un grupo de chicas que recoge toooda la ropa que ninguno ni nadie quiere, las customiza (cuando dan a basto) y venden a precios de risa para subvencionar distintos proyectos sociales que nuestro querido ayuntamiento considera prescindibles...
pero que ellas no (ni muchos otros tampoco) y por eso trabajan en este proyecto que ya se esta convirtiendo en un evento mensual.

Su proximo rastrillo es el dia 30 de Enero. En el Barrio del Carmen, en el centro historico de la ciudad.

Justo antes de la VFW, y creedme, se encuentran joyas vintage dignas de una pasarela.

Asi que si estais por Valencia, ya sabeis.

La gente se mueve, se ayuda y colabora mediante la moda y es hermoso formar parte de ello y poco a poco encontrar un sentido dentro de una industria tan superficial y muerta.

The return of the Party

Saturday was one of the worst best nights in my life. I was burglarized. Goodbye to the BB, ID, School ID, everything!

All the happiness because "The return of the Party" were back in town went away when we noticed our belongings had been stolen.

But well, in tough times is when you notice who are your friends. Everyone tried to make the night better and it was.

So thanks to you all for make us smile even though we just wanted to tear heads away!

But not everything has been partying this weekend. On friday we made a fabrics shopping spree to Alicante.

The shop didn't ressult to be as cheap as we thought but we found trimmings.

There's been tons of sewing but I want to make things fine so I'm taking it slow and not allowing the euphoria to take over me and screw some dress.

Soon, very soon in X gone Y.

Permanent revolution

I've been reading Trotsky a lot lately.

I've burned my retinas looking at the laptop screen as I was remembering the whole theory. I don't know why but lately I feel more close to this kind of thinking. I know the whole concept is kind of difficult to achieve, but I think is happening.

We're no longer a conformist society, we're growing to be a brand new generation of people who I think is going to make things better.

Until then, I'm going to stick reading more and more, because if there's a concept totally tangled with the Trostkism is that you, as human being, have the capacity of thinking, learning and questioning things no matter what.

And that's what make us different as individuals.

Under this concept I'm starting a project I'll soon share with you, is actually a school project but I think it could work, so I'm going to share it with you all soon.

Se que he estado un tanto desaparecida. Unas pocas/os me lo habeis dicho por mail/trendation y otras en persona, lo cual me ha hecho ilusion que haya gente que lea el blog con tanta asiduidad.

La verdad esque no he estado haciendo mucho, simplemente tenia que asentarme en el nuevo curso, y supongo que otras cosas han tomado prioridad, pero por poco tiempo. I'm back in tracks, Y dispuesta a quedarme! Con nuevos propositos aunque no sea año nuevo, pq cuando te das cuenta de que hasta tus mejores amigos actualizan casi a diario y tu ni te enteras... algo no marcha:

1. Leer el News Feed a diario.

2. Volver a comprar revistas de moda. (Estoy totalmente out de las tendencias de esta temporada)

3. Coser, coser, coser.

4. Cuidar el blog mejor que a mi misma...

5. Investigar nuevos patrones. Si, se que ya huele este básico, pero me encanta.

Asi que para.... celebrar? esta nueva etapa, ahi va un patron en el que he estado trabajando, y cosiendo. En cuanto encuentre el cargador de la camara, hare fotos de los nuevos vestidos, pero hasta entonces, estoy sin imgs, ya que la resolucion de mi blackberry sucks.

Partiendo del patron base femenino, construimos este vestido.

1º) Marcamos la cintura. ¿Como? Con pinzas. Ya lo hicimos antes, ahora es utilizarlas en la cintura. Asi marcaremos 1/4 de la medida de cintura + 2cm con las pinzas.

2º) Añadir la bajada de cadera. Desde el punto B, bajar 1/3 de cadera + 5. Esta sera tu bajada de cadera.

3º) Dibujar tu falda. La medida sera la de tu cintura + 2cm. (Si quieres que tenga fruce añade 20cm a la cintura de la falda)

4º) Cortar tu espalda en dos piezas.

5º) Cortar el delantero doble.

6º) Unir las piezas del delantero con la espalda.

7º) Unir falda a la parte superior.

8º) Coser cremallera en la espalda.

9º) Unir hombros.

Si quieres añadir mangas es mas facil hacerlo antes de unir los hombros.

Ya se que aun no hemos hablado de ellas, pero pronto actualizare. Ahora intentare hacerlo con mas asiduidad, con nuevos tutoriales y todas las cosas que estoy cosiendo.

Para averiguar el largo del radio, solo has de hacer esta sencilla ecuacion: Semiperimetro de cintura/PI

Puedes hacerla del largo que quieras, y siempre queda bien. Yo por ejemplo he elegido dos largos.

El largo por encima de la rodilla y

el largo por el tobillo,

que sigo diciendo son un must de esta temporada.

La distancia desde la cintura al largo la eliges Tu.

Juega con ella.

I've been busy, mostly sewing and screwing a whole set of hot pants that I had to deliver to some friends. I hate when that happens, mostly because I was using pleated skirts to make the pants and now I have to find new skirts for make them.

I'm working on the tutorial of a jumpsuit that is gonna be great, in the previous entry you have how to make the base pattern.

I don't have much else to share, only that I've got a new prize from No me toques el Coco Chanel.
She has a great blog and she's also an stylist. I would like to have the img so I could nominate seven more bloggers, so I'll wait until she sends it to me.

I've been also having a week of back to the 70's.

I bought some wide leg pants in Sfera's Sales which are the best ones around for buying low price jeans, by the way, and I love them.

I like that now we can wear all kind of pants without worry about if they're in or not. I suppose you just need to be careful with abuse of the whole 70's look.

That's what happened to me when I found some gorgeous glittering wide leg pants in a street market.

The euphoria made me buy them and then, when I looked at them twice I became aware that they were awful, so I had to cut them off and made them hot pants, because they looked like Saturday Night Fever meets Starsky & Hutch.

Lo se, se que he estado hablando de petos y monos desde marzo, y que aun no he actualizado con el tutorial, pero por mas que intento simplificarlo mas dificil me parece... Y el verano es complicadamente entretenido.

Beber y coser.

Y entre mojitos de tequila (un invento de una amiga), cervezas y volantes ayer compare patrones y resulta que el patron del cuerpo femenino sirve para el patron del peto y/o mono.

LA ESPALDA

(F,P)= 7/10 Estatura

(F,L)= 3/10 ANCHO + 10

(O,P)= 6cm

Ñ= A la mitad de (L,O)

(L,L')= 1/2 ANCHO + 4cm

(L',M)= 1/10 ANCHO

(M,N)= 1/10 ANCHO

(N,N')= 2cm

(L'') = A la mitad de (N,L)

Q'= Idem L''

Traza recta (Q', L'')

Q= 1/10 (F,P) + 2cm
Q''= 1/10 (F,P) + 2cm

Ñ''= Trazando linea recta (M,Q'')

* Para crear el delantero utilizaremos las mismas medidas añadidas al patron del delantero, menos estas dos ya que no necesitas esta ampliacion.

Y con un poco de maña e imaginacion puedes conseguir los dos modelos de prenda estrella de esta temporada: El peto y el mono. Solo tienes que dibujar el patron dentro de la prenda. Pero ya abarcaremos esto mas detalladamente en la proxima entrada: El peto.

X gone Y 10: I heart you

Lo que mas me esta gutando esta temporada son las espaldas. Estrategicamente diseñadas las grandes marcas nos ofrecen una nueva manera de llevar el escote y para las chicas como yo, a la que no nos va mucho el escote delantero, es un autentico alivio descubrir (Por lo menos en mi caso) un diseño tan femenino y llevable sin miedo a enseñar mas de la cuenta.

Hace ya tiempo fuimos al mercado de Pelayo (Que raro) Y compramos esta falda. Intente encontrar una forma de llevarla, sin tocarla. Quedaba bien, pero no me convencia del todo.

Asi que pensando, pensando un dia tuve una idea.

Resulta que la cintura coincidia casi al 100% con mi perimetro de pecho, et voila, me dije a mi misma, que mejor forma de arreglarla que convertirla en un top con canesu?

Asi que cogi el patron base y empece a trabajar.

Lo primero que hice fue sacar el canesu.

Delantero:

Calca tu patron base en otro papel de patron.

1) Haz una linea entre 5 y 8 cm por debajo de la linea de pecho. En mi caso yo no lo hice, porque queria que fuese una prenda que fuera para la tienda asi que solo corte 3cm, de esta manera le puede servir a mas chicas.

2) Dibujar los tirantes. Lo apasionante del patronaje es que es mas sencillo de lo que nos imaginamos. Yo, por ejemplo hice tirantes de 5cm de ancho.

3) Dibujar la nueva sisa y escote con la regla burmester. O si no, deja el mismo como he hecho yo, ya que he hecho el escote en la espalda.

Ahora ya tienes el delantero. Recortalo.

Vamos a la espalda:

4) Utilizar las medidas en la espalda, es decir: si has hecho tirantes de 5cm de ancho en el delantero en la espalda tmb o si has cortado 5cm por debajo de la linea de pecho, en la espalda haras lo mismo.

5) Dibuja la nueva sisa.

6) Ahora lo unico que tienes que hacer es dibujar un medio corazon en la espalda. Ya que tienes la mitad de la espalda en el patron lo unico que has de hacer es dibujarlo sobre la linea, como cuando haciamos recortables de muñequitos de pequeñas.

A la hora de cortarlo yo he cortado el delantero doble dos veces. Doble para poder coserlos juntos asi se vera igual por delante y por detras.

Y la espalda la he cortado dos veces por cada lado.

La tela que he utilizado es el bajo de la falda ya que me sobraba un buen cacho para que fuese un top sobre la cadera.

¿Y como lo he cosido? Muy facil.

7) Coser los dos delanteros del reves y dejando en la parte superior 5cm (En los tirantes)

8) Voltear por el bajo, ya que no lo habras cosido.

9) Hacer lo mismo en la espalda.

10) Unir espalda y delantero por un costado.

11) Unir bajo a cintura de la falda.

12) Coser los hombros juntos.

13) Si quieres puedes hacer un pespunte de adorno :D

RECUERDA QUE DEBES DEJAR MARGEN DE COSTURA! 1 cm para todas las costuras y 2cm en el bajo del canesú

We all love 501. That's a fact. I was wishing to wear this gorgeous shorts since I found them in a street market, but as usual they were kind of big for me so I had to work in them.

A lot.

First of all they were like three sizes above so I had to do something you shouldn't do when something is so big. I had to use darts. Really big darts in the side so it could look barely good. (The result is actually better than I was expecting.)

So if you find a pair of 501 you just need to make some darts in the sides so it fits you better.

In Jose's case, he doesn't need them, cause in a guy they look kinda better this way.

And if you don't find them, then I have great news for you, we have a pair of 501 in the shop. They're white and look kinda old.

Hoy hemos ido a ver la fábrica de Dolores Cortes... 2 horas en un tren para una visita de 20min aprox.

Eso es todo.

Lo mejor de la mañana ha sido el pequeño shopping spree que hemos hecho. H&M, Blanco y Super Mira.

El Super Mira es un supermercado de zapatos. Inmenso. Con zapatos de todas las clases. Lo que busques, ahi esta.

Y como no, Jose ha encontrado los mejores zapatos, ya que como siempre los zapatos de hombre son 1000 veces mejor que los femeninos.

X gone Y 8: Good girls wear polka dots

I really like wife shirts.They're becoming a basic in the shops, and you can find them to low prices, Yatt for example has a really cool collection of tees for this summer.

But yet again, you can DIY this kind of shirts in a couple of seconds, because if you're not one of the MGMT and they're a basic in your wardrobe you maybe don't want to spend 10€ in a tee and you prefear to DIY and save some money.

You just need to find the right place where you have to cut.

So maybe you'd like to try it with one of your old tees and if you like it, buy one. (Sure, yeah. That's like the lame excuse of download music so if you like you'd buy it later...)

1) Fold the tee making sure the sleeves, the hem and the neck coincide.

2) Put pins in the sleeve and neck so it remains together.

3) You need to mark with your burmester ruler the armhole.

4) Do the same with the neck.

5) Once you had do it with the neck, then you need to sharpen the neck making a new line so it looks good, because if not the neck would be heart shapped and we don't want that.

6) Cut them carefully.

Now, this is optional, I chose to make a pocket with the rests of the sleeve.

7) You need to prove on the tank and make a mark in your breast.

8) Use the sleeve to draw a pocket of around 5cmX4cm.

9) Now sew your pocket over the mark and make sure the fabric is straight. If you want you can use a thread of a different color.

Finally I put this shirt with this polka dots skort that by the way are in the shop already and you can get them to really low price.

Estoy realmente emocionada de haber acabado la segunda parte del tutorial al fin. A partir de ahora vamos ha hacer miles de cosas mas.

Seguid las instrucciones, son bastantes sencillas. Espero que ahora pueda actualizar como minimo una vez a la semana con todas las cosas que tengo en stock y que no podia subir porque no habia subido esto primero.

Para las que me han preguntado por el blog/tienda, siento mucho los problemas que han habido.
Estoy trabajando intensamente en ello. Lo prometo.

Y tambien, creo que a peticion general tambien pondre algunos posts de outfits e ideas que considero interesantes y en los que mezclo cosas.

En tiempos de crisis tenemos que aprovechar el armario, y que clase de pseudopunk seria si no lo hiciese?

A mi me encanta mezclar conceptos, tomar de cada tendencia lo que me gusta. En este caso me encanta que la moda punk haya tomado las tiendas, y comprar cosas que me encantan sea muchisimo mas barato que antes.

En este caso he mezclado tres tendencias que me gustan: lace, punk y navy.

Supongo que todas/os a la hora de vestirnos mostramos una pequeña parte de nosotras/os, en mi caso me ponga lo que me ponga, siempre acaba siendo un poco punky.

Not a problem for me, pero te das cuenta de que realmente, en mi busqueda por definir que era, pregunta que me han hecho desde mi tierna adolescencia, lo mas importante no és que eres, sino quien eres.

Todo lo demas no importa.

I suppose we all show a little bit of ourselves in our outfits. In my case, I use to look like a punk. (Punk, grunge, hippie...); since I was a teen, the most important thing is not what are you but who are you.

That's what really matters.

Finalmente he conseguido simplificar al máximo como hacer un patron de cuerpo femenino. Es decir, el patron que utilizaremos para hacer la parte de arriba de los vestidos.

He estado leyendo muchos tutoriales online, de cómo sacar tu propio patron, pero como siempre son liosos y utilizan un lenguaje muy técnico. Asi que durante los siguientes posts vamos a ver todo lo que necesitas saber para hacer el patron base de vestido.

En primer lugar las medidas utilizadas:

Circunferencia de Busto: Seria la medida de tu cincunferencia de pecho.
Tórax máximo: Circunferencia de Busto + 2cm
Circunferencia de Cintura: Tu circunferencia de cintura.
Estatura 7a: es la medida desde la nuca al suelo. Es decir tu altura menos tu cabeza.

Ahora las medidias que usaremos a lo largo del tutorial:

Talle: 3/10 de estatura 7a
Pecho: 1/2 perimetro de pecho
Base: 1/2 circunferencia de pecho + desahogo.
Tórax: 1/2 de tórax.
Cintura: 1/2 de cintura

Buscando y rebuscando, he encontrado diversos tutoriales que me han llamado la atencion. Por ejemplo en algunos te recomiendan medirte holgadamente.

NO LO HAGAS.

Me gustaria pensar que esta indicacion es para crear los desahogos. Bueno, pues es tan facil como añadir el desahogo deseado a tu medida real.

Y esto es lo que llevaba hoy. Se que no suelo actualizar con outfits no relacionados con lo que hago, pero ha sido mi total despedida al invierno, y una mala idea que me ha causado sudores a escalas diferentes mientras iba por la calle. Pero bueno, era uno de esos conjuntos que te vuelves a poner pq te gustan, eso si, se acabaron las chaquetas y las dobles mangas hola americanas de colores y shorts con calcetines.

A couple of weeks ago Lulila updated her blog with gorgeous collages about women wearing turbans. And that made me remember that I had tons of worth rests that I could use to decorate my hair, so here comes the tutorial of how to make your own turban:

1. Measure your head circumference and add 10cm.

2. Join the middle of the fabric, rugging it so it gets the desired effect and join it with a pin.

Prove it in your head, check if it looks as you wanted.

3. Once you're sure it looks as you want, sew over the rugged part.

4. Open the ends, giving them form. That way it would cover more of your head.

And finally sew the back of it and now, you have your very own turban.

Remember that is a complement you must set in your head and make sure it looks good. Depending on the material it would always have its form, but if not, you can always set it straight over your head.

Now another kind of turban. This one is even easier. You just need two pieces of fabric of your head cimcunference and join them by the middle of it.

Once they're together, joined as in the pic, then you need to sew the back separately. Meaning sewing two different circles.

And finally join the back of the turbans.

It should look like this in the front.

That's another model of a turban. I love to wear them with darker clothes so it lights the outfits.

The thing is that I find it a great complement since Prada proposed them in 2006? I can't believe I don't remember witch collection was, it was the one where the models also sported sateen high waisted shorts. That was when my love for sateen started.

Anyway, if someone remembers which collection was I would love to know it.

And try it yourself.

Hace un tiempo Lullia publico una entrada con algunos de sus maravillosos collages de mujeres llevando turbantes. Y eso me hizo recordar que tengo un monton de restos de telas que podria utilizar para hacer turbantes.

Asi que aqui esta el tutorial.

1. Mide la cincunferencia de tu cabeza y añade 10 cm.

2. Junta el medio de la tela arugándola hasta que tenga el efecto deseado y sujétalo con un alfiler.

Pruébatelo, asegurate que tiene el efecto deseado en el centro.

2. Cose la parte arrugada a mano o con tu máquina de coser.

4. Abre el final del turbante, dandole forma. De ésta manera cubrira mas parte de tu cabeza.

Y finalmente, cose la parte de atras y ya tienes tu turbante.

Para el otro modelo solo necesitas dos trozos de la cincunferencia de tu cabeza.

1. Juntalos por el medio como en la foto.

2. Cose los finales de ambos lados.

3. Ahora une los finales para crear un solo turbante.

Recuerda que éste es un complemento que deberas asegurarte que te queda bien. Dependiendo del material, el turbante perdera su forma, asi que moldealo sobre tu cabeza cuando te lo pongas.

El caso es que es un complemento genial, y desde que prada los propuso... en ¿2006
No lo recuerdo exactamente, pero son geniales. Y son una excelente forma de pretender que te has peinado cuando en realidad has estado en la cama veinte minuticos mas.

XgoneY 5: New Showing Season (Yeah)

Today I learned two facts:

1. The other day I watched (Almost for the tenth time) the documentary about The House of Chanel. Is a really long series that we watched last year in school, but the other day I watched it on TV. Anyways it was about the women who make the dresses. Those women are my heroines. Some people admires Karl Lagerfield, who I think is a great designer, but I admire those women. The patience they have and how they hand sew the very same dress several times. I would had insult him if he had make me do the same dress three times. Fact. Said is I don't get payed as well as they do. I do it for the fun of it, so I'm making an exercise of patience.

And I suppose that's what happened to me today. I was working in the pattern of an overall. It looked kinda cool, I could already picture myself sporting it and becoming it my favourite summer outfit. And thanks to Boyfriend who told me to sew it over museline first, I would be able to sport it with the gorgeous shocking pink liberty flowers fabric I have stored for it.

But I definitevly hate to work in a pattern and then when you had finished your work it doesn't really works as it looked in your head, so you have to do all of the work again.

2. That amazingly, for relaxing after a moment of insanity where I was swearing in Catalan as usual and breaking my pattern (Something I regreated later because it was a stupid mistake kind of mark 20 when it was 30.) I raised the volume of Brand New in the stereo and while listening New showing season (Yeah) I was dancing around and bumped onto a bag where it was the dress I was thinking on work in long time ago. And the ideas of what to do with it just kept coming to my brain with the chorus.

When I started in the Fashion world I used to cut and paste. The technic of cut and paste is something all of the Fashion students of the EASD of València are familiar with.
Definition of Cut and Paste: Buy a sewing magazine (Usually Burda) and join together the parts of different patterns so you do the desired garment.

It sometimes looks great, other times looks like shit, but now I use to do it all of the time straight over the clothes because is easier, cheaper and gives you the chance to work with the sewing knownledge you have. Join a sweater and a skirt by the waist, cut some jeans and make a dart in the hem so they are suddenly hotpants(We'll talk about it soon) or make a dress look different with darts. I already postend how to do this before, but it was an easier dress, now we're going to complicate it a little.

Youre goint to need:

Scissors, your sewing machine (Or you can do it by hand if you want to), , a measurement tape, pins and a pencil.

Skirt:

Take the pattern of your skirt. And cut throw the dart till the end. Now join together the two sides of the dart. Your pattern should have a bell shape now. The hem of the skirt now is wider.

1. Take the measurements you need. In my case I wanted the size 36. Measure your breast circumference, your waist and your trunk measurement. Take a look to this post in case youhave doubts.

2. In the case the dress is not your size unsew the sides till the sleeve of the dress.* So you can make a dart in the sides.

*If it was necessary unsew a little bit of the sleeve.

3. Mark where your breast line is.

4. Measure the dart of the breast and mark it.

5. Measure the trunk measurement and mark it. There is where your waist is. Mark the line of your waist with a pin.

6. Mark the same measurement -3 in your back. That's because our breast dart is going to measure 3cm so this way the two sides measure the same.

7. Now you have your waist line, mark the line with a pencil and cut around 5cm down the waist line. That's your sewing hem and now you have the skirt and the upper side.

Make sure it looks good, prove the dress as many times you need to make sure.

9. Mark the modifications with pins.

10. Now you must sew first the breast dart.

11. Sew the rest of the darts.

12. Join the sides.

13. Join the skirt with the upperside of the dress.

Hoy he aprendido dos cosas:

1. El otro dia ví(Por décima vez) el documental de Le Firme Chanel. Es una serie de documentales sobre el proceso creativo de la firma que vimos el año pasado en clase, pero el otro dia iba de las costureras. Definivitamente son heroinas. Alguna gente admira a Karl Lagerfield, que creo que es un gran diseñador, pero yo admiro a esas mujeres. La paciencia que tienen y como cosen a mano el mismo vestido una y otra vez. Si hubiese sido yo habria acabado insultando al mismisimo Karl. Seguro. Aunque no me pagan tan bien como les pagan a ellas. Yo lo hago porque lo encuentro divertido y es un excelente ejercicio de paciencia y aprendizaje.

Y supongo que es lo que me ha pasado hoy. Estaba trabajando en el patron de un peto. Quedaba genial y ya podia verme llevandolo y convirtiendolo en mi prenda fetiche esta temporada. Y gracias a Boyfriend, quien me dijo de coserlo en muselina primero, aun podré hacerlo con la maravillosa tela en rosa fuchsia y flores liberty que tengo.

Pero definitivamente odio trabajar en un patron y que cuando lo acabe no funciona como pensaba y tienes que hacer todo el trabajo otra vez.

2. Sorprendentemente, para relajarme despues de un momento de locura transitoria mientras chillaba insultos y rompia el patron (Algo de lo que me he arrepentido despues porque era un error tonto y podria haber vuelto a usarlo) He subido el volumen de BRand New en el Stereo y mientras escuchaba New showing season (Yeah) y bailaba me he dado contra una bolsa donde estaba este vestido. Y las ideas simplemente me han venido a la mente con el estribillo.

Cuando empeze a estudiar diseño de moda utilizaba mucho la técnica del corta y pega. Esta tecnica es algo que casi todos conociamos en la EASD. Consiste basicamente en comprar una revista de costura como el Burda y juntar diferentes patrones hasta conseguir la prenda deseada.

A veces funciona a la perfeccion aunque otras veces el resultado apestaba. Ahora hago la misma tecnica pero directamente sobre las prendas, es mas barato y fácil y te da la oportunidad de trabajar con los conocimientos de costura que tienes.

Juntar un sueter con una falda, cortar unos vaqueros y hacer una pinza para que sean unos hotpants (Hablaremos de ello prontob) O hacer que un vestido sea completamente diferente con pinzas.

Ya postee como hacer esto antes, pero era con un vestido facil, ahora vamos a complicarlo un poco.

Vas a necesitar:

Tijeras, la máquina de coser (O a mano según tu experiencia), una cinta metrica, alfileres y un lápiz.

Instrucciones:

Toma las medidas que necesites. En mi caso queria una talla 36. Mide la circunferencia de tu pecho, tu cintura y tu talle. (Mira el post de tomar medidas por si acaso)

Para la falda cortaras por la pinza hasta el final del patron. Asi, juntando los dos lados de la pinza tendras el patron de una falda evasé

2. Si el vestido no es tu talla descose los lados hasta la manga* asi podras hacer unas pinzas en el costado.

*Si es necesario descose un poco de la manga.

3. Marca donde esta tu linea de pecho.

4. Mide y marca la pinza del pecho y cosela. Como siempre no debera medir mas de 3cm de ancho.

5. Mide el talle y marcalo. Ahi es donde esta tu linea de cintura. Márcala con un alfiler.

6. Marca la misma medida de talle -3 en tu espalda. Esto es porque la pinza del pecho va a medir 3cm asi los dos lados mediran lo mismo.

7. Ahora tienes la linea de cintura, marcala con un lapiz. Corta 5cm por debajo de la linea de cintura. Este sera el margen de costura.

Asegurate de que te viene bien, pruebatelo las veces que necesites.

8. Marca las modificaciones con los alfileres.

9. Cose la pinza del pecho primero.

10. Cose el resto de las pinzas.

11. Junta los lados.

12. Junta la falda por la linea de cintura con la parte superior del vestido.

13. Plancha todas las costuras.

The other day I found a gorgeous dress in a street market. I was in love with it. Big flowers, oversize. I was thinking on what to do with it until I saw myself wearing it.

Perfect.

Then it came yesterday. Perfect items just came coming to my hands. A really short skirt, some people would call it top, I call it skirt, is a matter of semantics, or a gorgeous brand new turquoise blazer that I would wear as soon is clean.

But then, as we kept proving items and making photos of them, it came the perfection made dress.

It started like a joke, kinda with the sentence of: Oh my god, Jose, look at this! And following up the laughs the ideas just kept coming to our minds. Like cutting it or something like that. And it was just 1 euro so I thought, whatever, just buy it.

And I did.

The surprise came when I put it on.

Then it was awesome. The dress was like made for me. I just couldn't take it off. I just wanted to sport it. I even had lunch with it. I felt like a princess, like a Prom Queen nominee. Then I came home, and my boyfriend who respects but rarely shares my fashion sense told me that it looked great, and that some maid of honor must had give it to charity.

And then he started calling me Marla Singer, I really don't care. I love the tragedy of the character and Helena so It just made me think on her words, that someone loved that dress and then gave it up. Or some really mean bride forced her best friend to sport it. Because the dress is awesome for just wear it in summer, but not for a wedding in anyway I'm just not touching anything of it. I love it.

Some second hand clothes are perfect as they are. I rarely find something that fits me, I use to have to restore them, which is mostly the reason on why I started this blog and now, in the health of my relationship and my dressing room add some items I think you guys would like to buy in the other blog/shop. They're unique, something I can promise you because I made them. I love second hand clothes, something is truth, they don't use as awesome fabrics as they used back then.

So along this week I would open the shop with new items. You can buy them or you can get the idea of how to make something similar in this blog.
I won't update with anything I hadn't share the making off here first, which is the reason on why I hadn't open the shop yet..

But in my career as expertise in vintage and second hand clothes I must say that some things are perfect as they are. I hope you also had find something you love and can sport without doing anything to it. But if you didn't, I would keep updating with great and easy DIY projects so we loose our fear to buy something that obviously don't fit, but that you would love to wear.

After the last shopping sprees, the whole idea of X gone Y is loosing its point, but I'll keep looking for things to restore, I just love to do it and is also a good exercise for my patterning and sewing classes.

P.S I hadn't forget the pattern of the dress. I would update it soon, just my PC seems to don't want to work the Macromedia applications lately.

Still with DIY (Dye it yourself) projects. I have to love bleach. Is just the best invent ever, how something can look so different with just bleach, and this vest would look even better, or let's hope it does, when Jose and I are done with the idea I have for it.

X gone Y 3: Is a sunny day in the neighbourhood

I love this weather. One of the multiple good things about living in Valencia is that the good weather comes in March. Is almost spring, we're in holidays, Fallas. I'm having really nice holidays, resting, partying with moderation, which is a point in my New Year's Ressolutions' list; and also sewing and doing tons of projects.

Like I'm kinda driving you crazy with all the sewing I wanted to update an easy tutorial mostly because the guy I'm stealing internet of right now (ONO seems to be also on holidays) seems to start to figure out that he's sharing without knowing, so I need to be quick.

With the sun and party clima around we went to the market on Wednesday morning and we bought some pretty nice spring stuff that I'm already working on.

Tons of denim, for make hot pants for this summer, cause I love them and I love denim. In all of its kinds, acid, dark and dyed, bleached... The latter, is something you must do.

I suppose you had noticed the MUST, I don't want to sound imperative but you MUST do it. I mean, pay 20 bucks more for something just because someone had the brilliant idea to bleach them and make them look old SHOULD BE illegal.

So please, just do it yourself with some old jeans, is funny and an interesting exercise of patience.

I think everybody knows how to bleach something.

Use bleach.

Plain and simple. I remember once in Summer School doing some summer course of sewing when we made hippie style tees. With ropes and all the deal.

Well, I'm not actually going to teach you how to do that, I mean everybody knows how to do that.
Actually I think everybody knows how to fill a cube with water and a glass of bleach and put your jeans in... and wait until the color is gone the following day.

Ok, maybe this tutorial is kind of a lame excuse to show you how this old jacket i bought now looks like a complete different piece of cloth...You got me.

But I just think it looks awesome and that everybody can do it.
You just need bleach, water (Obvio) and sandpaper. I'm sure your dad or boyfriend has some at home if not buy it, is pretty cheap and would last you long. Well, take the sandpaper and pass it in the wrists, hem, neck, pockets. Wherever you feel like make a hole or give it a fray effect.

Just remember to do it when the cloth is dry. And also after you had bleached it wash the cloth alone a couple of times in the washing machine, just to evite you unconfortable situations with your mom wondering why the hell her favourite jeans have bleach stamps and you pretending it wasn't you but it was obvious it was you because your brand new pair of bleached jeans were in the same laundry basket (True story and also true long time grounded, good old days back in high school... sigh)

Be creative with the sandpaper. That's the trick. I also use it to break jeans. I mean I make a cut and then I pass it a little throw the cuts so some treads come out the fabric. Just don't exceed and don't make the cuts too nearby if you're not pretending them to naturally join after a while and become a really big hole in your tight/knee. (That's what happened to the jeans that spoiled my mom's fav jeans.)

Try the trick of the sandpaper, It would make your holes look great and natural.

Secondly, we speak about features. I was in the Fashionalistas page a couple of weeks ago and also in Autor de Toi. It was awesome, more with all the amazing comments people left in the page and even more when Fashionalistas chose me as the look of the month and appeared in Hello Valencia with some people I really admire, like Laia or my lovelly Jose.

Hello Valencia is a tourism magazine, my mom for example gets it in the bank, but you can buy it in any bookstore, which doesn't really has a point if you're not a tourist, cause we Valencians kinda have the AU (Agènda Urbana)

But again, it was an honor. So thank you, thank you very much to these different sites. I'm going to put them straight in the right of my blog just for maybe in 30 years come back to look at it and say to Jose, who would be totally working with me, or I would be calling him on the phone and telling him: Hey, we were in a magazine once... and then keep sewing whatever we're sewing for some Young Tirane at the same level of Cool Fashion designer with green hair and a tattoed body who would talk Catalanglish because that would be the trend then.

Until then, let's going to enjoy our 15 minutes of fame.

This post is a continuation of this other one: http://laumika.blogspot.com/2010/02/were-weirdos-mister.html , so I'm not going to ramble and I'm actually going to start with the cutting and sewing instructions right away:

1. As we said you must cut the pattern of the straight skirt in four pieces// Corta el patron de la falda base en cuatro piezas.

2. Place the patterns over the fabric as we did with the straight skirt. The only difference between these two skirts is that now we have four patterns. //

Coloca los patrones sobre la tela como hicimos con la falda recta, ya que la unica diferencia ahora es que tenemos cuatro patrones en vez de uno, pero que al final resultaran en una falda completa.

3. Now you had cut the patterns. Remember to add the sewing hems up and down. Maybe you had added them while we did the pattern, I actually told you so. But if you didn't, as I obviously didn't, you need to do it now, which would make the whole sewing process more difficult, so my advice is you add the sewing hem to the pattern.

// Ahora has cortado los patrones sobre la tela. Recuerda añadir el margen de costura. Puede que lo añadieras al patron. Muy lista por tu parte. Yo no lo hice y me ha costado mucho mas. Mi consejo es que lo añadas al patron, ya que el proceso de costura sera mucho mas fácil.

4. Sew the pieces together. // Cose las piezas juntas.

5. Sew a side of the skirt. In the other side you must sew the invisible zip. // Cose un costado de la falda, en el otro lado coseras la cremallera invisible.

6. Sew the applique. // Cose el aseo.

The resulting skirt must look something like this.

Remember that in the last piece you must sew a slit, because we're working with a not stretching material, and I suppose you actually would like to be able to walk... I placed it in the back of the skirt so the form of the skirt is not altered.

Recuerda que en la ultima pieza haremos una raja. Estamos utilizando un material que no es elástico por lo que te seria bastante dificil caminar sin ella. Yo la he puesto en la parte de atras, evitando asi que se pierda la forma de la falda.

If you want to do the same but with elastic fabric, remember:

1. You must use an elastic sewing thread for sewing the skirt.

2. You must apply the elasticity equation when you do the pattern.

3. Your skirt won't need the slit, the dart nor the invisible zip...

Si quieres hacer la misma falda pero con material elastico, recuerda:

1. Deberas utilizar hilo elastico para coserla.

2. Deberas aplicar el coeficiente de elasticidad a la hora de hacer el patron.

3. No necesitaras raja, ni pinza, ni cremallera invisible.

Month's Obsession: 30's evening gowns.

I know I'm supposed to be writing the second part of the tutorial, but I lost a piece (again), my machine is making a weird noise (Is starting to bum me out) and I have this huge test tomorrow.

So I've decided to post some inspiring images of the 30's, because I love that era and actually was my costume for this year's Carnival party. (Amusing how so many people recognizes the 20's but not the 30's.)

I don't really use to dress up for this kind of parties, I use to just put on a wig for the fun of it, but this year I kinda got inspired while downloading some books of this amazing page. http://vintagesewing.com

It actually teaches you some really good techniques of sewing and, great ideas of how to build a wardrobe, and my favorite ones: tutorials of how to make hats and patterns of clothes of different decades.

As I was reading I discovered that the fashion in evening gowns had changed. I know, I should had figure that one out back in College, when I took Fashion History... but yet again, I rarely attended that class.

In the 30s, the feminine silhouette came back; bosom, and hips were clearly defined by the shape of the clothing and the waistline returned to its natural position.

And my favorite part: bare-backed gowns! Now, that's gorgeous. Actually that's what I told the two girls that asked me for a dress: You're gonna go bare backed.

This is what I wore to the party, a red dress I found in a street market and that I restored to look more 30'sly? Wow, that's a word... cause the blogger Spell check is not marking it.... Amazing.

Anyway, all I did was to tie a belt of the same color in my waist, making two holes in the sides so I could mark my waist and leave the back bare. It looked so good, and I would love to have more pictures but it was freaking cold and I didn't take the jacket off at any moment. Let's hope next time I wear it, is hotter outside because I'm totally going to wear it so many times this summer and I would make photos and update them in Trendation or here, because I simply love this piece of fabric and I think it could look great with Docs and a denim or leather jacket.

The party was not the party of the year, but if you wore a costume you had beer and a tapa for 50c.

All I need to say is that I sported my costume with dignity until 2 am when vowels stopped to be a part of my vocabulary and I started to ramble to whoever that asked me about the dress about the 30's.
As I'm doing right now. So I think I'm going to shut up and come back to study, because one of this days, I actually want to graduate.

I'm a person who gets a lot to get inspired with something, but the last time I watched The Craft I was watching it throw a brand new light.
The plot is kind of lame so I can't remember it properly. A bunch of teens filled of issues and use magic to go throw them... whatever.

When I was a teen I think there was a moment I thought it was worth of something, because I actually found a tape of it in the garage a couple of years ago.

I suppose we all had dark times and were lame and felt identified with the urban pseudo-punk decadence of the depressive preppy girls. Didn't you? Just me? Whatever...

The thing is that this time I was more interested in the outfits, I mean, how comes I hadn't notice how great they were before? Ok, that's a lie, maybe I kinda sported Docs with a plaid skirt when I was 12. Maybe my mom gave me a long speech of her concept of Do and Don't in fashion for a young lady, but we had that conversation thousand of times along my life and maybe I'm just making it up and she just told me to stop wearing that outfit... and my answer surely was a huge whatever again, tons of communication back then.

But now I'm older, and my mom gave up on me and my fashion sense when I was 16 and I thought that Courtney Love, Debbie Harry, Linda Perry and the rest of the 4 non Blondes, Angelina Jolie, Kathleen Hanna and Helena Bonham Carter were some of the most awesome and greatest-best dressed women in Earth... I think you can get the picture...; so I watched the flick and I actually got inspired. Miracle! And I was so happy that the skirt worked out that I needed to share with you the idea.

Something inspired in the fashion decay proper of the nineties in a prep school that Neve Campbell and the rest of the cast pulls out in an awesome way.

So I joined together two concepts: the plaid fabric and also the skirt I loved this season: the bandage skirt.

I bought like six of them along the winter in different colors and models, but my favorite is the bandage skirt of pieces. I found one in Zara but it was elastic and experimenting I was wondering if I could make a bandage skirt of pieces but not elastic.

And it actually worked and is kind of easy so here you have the first part of the tutorial.

You're going to need:

The skirt pattern.

Scissors

A tape measure

A pencil or a pen

Enough fabric for make a skirt and a metre more.

Instructions:

1. Cut the pattern of your skirt in four pieces

2. Measure under your butt all the way throw your tights.

3. Measure your tights.

4. Measure over your knees.

This last three measurements are the ones we're going to use in each new piece.

1. The first piece:

Waist x 2cm + 10cm x hips +2cm x 14cm

2. The second piece

Hips + 2cm x 14cm x Measure under your butt + 2cm x 14cm

3. The third piece:

Measure of under your butt + 2cm x 10cm x measure of tights +2cm x 10cm

4. The fourth piece:

Measure of your tights + 2cm x 10 cm x measure of over your knees +2cm x 10cm

Now you must give the skirt the form of your body with the burmester ruler. You need to do it in the right side of the pattern because the left one is the one who is going to go double over the fabric.

Poneos en situacion, un mercadillo de Valencia.

Murmullos, gentio. "Calcetines, tres por un Euro nena." "Ajos. Dos bolsas un Euro." "Pantalones estilosos, dos por un Euro." Ahi, me pare. Me sorprendieron dos cosas:

1. Escuchar la expresion estiloso...

2. Que la mujer que habia gritado eso en cuestion vendia flores.

Pero al final del puesto, tenia una mesilla con prendas. Hállome sorprendida otra vez, puesto que no eran de segunda mano, eran noves de trinca.

Faldas de cuadros "Como en el internado, esto es lo ultimo." me dice la Señora. No puedo evitar sonreirle, y me convezco a mi misma de que voy a comprar algo solo por lo bien que me cae.

Pero esque todo era muy cohent.

Pero mucho, mucho. Hasta que aparecieron estos pantalones, que oye, son cohents a mas no poder, pero al ver que eran elasticos me dije a mi misma. Si, en pantalon seran feos, pero y en leggins para la primavera?

O mejor dicho, y en treggins?

Asi que compre la falda y los pantalones y me puse manos a la obra esa misma mañana, puesto que es bastante facil convertir tus pantalones rectos o de campana en skinny.

Aunque hay algunos condicionantes:

1. Te tienen que venir bien, porque si no te quedaran bolsas en las caderas. (Si no es el efecto que buscas, que puede que si)

2. Si son de campana muy ancha, el tutorial cambia. Ya lo veremos otro dia. Asi que coje unos rectos o unos pantalones de pitillo normales.

Los materiales que vas a necesitar son una cinta metrica, una tiza para tela o un lapiz; tijeras y tu maquina de coser.

1. Pruebate los pantalones del reves y marca donde estan la rodillas con una linea.

2. Mide tu circunferencia de rodilla y de tobillo y dividelo por cuatro.

3. Mide el largo que deseas de pantalon.

4. Marca en el pantalon donde estan tu tobillo y tu rodilla. Puede que la linea de tobillo cambie y ahora lo quieras mas corto, pero la de rodilla siempre sera la misma.

5. Descose por la parte de dentro del pantalon desde 5cm mas arriba de la rodilla hasta el bajo. Esto es porque la mayoria de los pantalones se les empieza a dar forma un poco mas arribe de las rodillas.

6. Ahora crea una linea recta para eliminar la campana. Si es un pantalon pitillo pero no muy ajustado en el tobillo crea lineas hacia dentro. Depende del modelo que quieras.

7. Asegurate de que el bajo mide como minimo 2cm mas que tu tobillo o tu pie no pasara y se te rompera al ponertelo. Si son elasticos como es el caso de estos pantalones entonces pudes meter mas de lo que mide tu tobillo.

Recuerda: Cuando digo tobillo digo 1/4 del tobillo.

9. Cose por la linea.

10. Cose el bajo.

Las Pinzas

Las pinzas son amigas. Esta es una maxima.

Ahora que me he introducido un poco mas en el mundo del patronaje y la confeccion me doy cuenta de que hay mucho mas detras, y entiendes la frase de tu madre de "no te preocupes, te pongo una pinza y ya esta."

Y esque teniendo las caderas anchas como las mias, las pinzas durante mucho tiempo, me sirvieron para poder llevar vaqueros ajustados pq obviamente me sobraban de cintura pero no en otros lados. Aunque dicho sea de paso, este es el primer año que llevo vaqueros ajustados porque quiero y no porque quedan mejor que enseñar las bragas cuando viene la familia a comer un domingo. ;D

Pero las pinzas tambien sirven en otras partes, como para meter un vestido o conseguir que una prenda te ajuste en un lado o en otro, o tenga cierta caida.

El concepto de la pinza es bastante sencillo: Es un pliegue cosido en la tela de una prenda de vestir.

Imaginate que tienes una falda que te sobra 3 cm.

A mi me sirven en su mayoria para conseguir que ciertas prendas de segunda mano se conviertan en algo completamente diferente añadiendo o quitando pinzas. O que una blazer de la talla 40 me sirva.

Has de tener en cuenta, de que cuando te sobran mas de 8cm la pinza ya no puede hacerse bien, puesto que esos cuatro cm corresponde a la diferencia entre dos tallas. Y meter dos tallas afea las prendas. Pero si que pueden ser lo largas que quieras.

Lo que tienes que tener muy encuenta es que la pinza no ha de notarse. Asi que si cuando la marcas, se queda un pliegue feo, busca otro lugar donde hacer la pinza u otra solucion como descoser y coser otra vez con las medidas reales. (Cosa que veremos en futuros tutoriales)

Con la falda, por ejemplo puedes hacerlo facilmente, ya que ya sabemos el proceso de construccion de una falda.

Las pinzas son practicamente invisibles, solo ha de notarse la costura.

Por ejemplo.

He conseguido que este abrigo de primavera largo se convierta en un minivestido peligrosamente corto.

¿Nunca has estado en una tienda de segunda mano y te ha gustado una prenda y te ha venido un poco demasiado grande? Pero era tan chula y barata que la has tenido que comprar.

Antes solia solucionarlo con mini cinturones pero ahora me siento y con una pinza en el lugar apropiado consigo una prenda completamente diferente.

Los pasos que he seguido en esta en cuestion son los siguientes:

1. Marcar en el abrigo la altura de la cintura.

2. Cortar 2cm mas hacia abajo de la linea marcada (Linea de cintura). Dando lugar a dos piezas. La de arriba y la falda.

3. Hacer una pinza en la espalda del abrigo.

4. Coser la pinza y planchar hacia el costado.

Ahora la parte de arriba mide menos (de ancho) que la de abajo. Bueno, lo suyo es unir falda y parte de arriba frunciendo a medida que vamos cosiendo.

Como? Muy facil.

5.1. Une con dos alfileres los dos extremos de las prendas.

5.2 Cuidadosamente frunce la tela a medida que coses. Este efecto se llama embebido, las que sabeis coser sabeis a lo que merefiero.

6. Plancha las costuras de la cintura hacia arriba dando lugar a que el canesu (Parte de arriba de la prenda) se superponga a la falda.

7. Sobrehila las costuras si lo ves necesario. Esto dependera del material. Si éste se desilacha pues hazlo o al quinto lavado te quedaras sin prenda.

Y ya has convertido un abrigo fino de verano en un vestido para esta primavera.

In the spring of 2006 I was a clueless 19 years old girl without a single idea of what the fashion design was. I never followed the trends or read fashion magazines and I was told in class that it needed to change my mind.

That I needed to buy some basic magazines every month. Glamour, Vogue, Tendencias and Harper's Bazar became something I needed to buy as cigarettes. And with the years I added Neo2, the British Vogue. Or Dazed and Confused, Must and Nylong were tags in my browser that I always visited. Afterwards the fashion blogs, Fotologs, Lookbooks...

Suddenly I was in a universe of fashion designers, celebrities, trends, colors, inspiration... And the thing was that I was learning.

A lot.

I always critiquized the fashion magazines for creating a need we didn't have. Critiquzing the consumism I always fought against of.

But I was wrong.

Fashion is an art. And fashion magazines are able to take to our hands pages and pages of art.

Is a fact.

And saddly is unknown for some people (The kind of people I used to be) and maybe is getting now the recognition it should had had long time ago.

Sure, I still have some reservations towards the art of fashion. Opinions I would share some other day. But I can't deny that fashion is an art and designers are artists.

I was aware of that the first time I heard about Elsa Schiaparelli who soon became my favorite designer. A fashion icon I needed to know everything about of.

Someone who I deeply admired.

And starting with her I started understanding the catwalks, the designs, the trends, the ideas.

When I was 16 or 17 I wasn't able to understand the impossible outfits I could see in the TV or in one of my mom's magazines.

Now I do.

Is art.

As simply as that.

You don't look at a Picasso or one of Giacommeti sculptures because it has a defined form, or idea. You do it because is art. And you enjoy it. I was able to enjoy and smile to the surrealist art.
And suddenly I was able to take fashion as another form of art.

Because so little people has the talent to make you feel with their work. In my case, I couldn't help but the moment I saw a piece of art I liked. Not a mocking smile but a smile of admiration.

And that's what some fashion designers are able to make me feel.

Elsa Schiaparelli was the first one.

Maybe because I liked surrealism, or maybe because now, years later, I'm able to sit and watch an image of something she designed and enjoy it beyond the cloth or the era.

Maybe because I could see her direct relation with surrealism, dadaism and a lot of isms made cloths.

Maybe this finding lead me to find the beauty in the surrealist fashion. That fashion that looks great in the catwalks. Those clothes that are walking pieces of art.

And if Elsa was who I think started this trend (If I'm wrong I would like to be corrected) Alexander McQueen was who finally made me realize that fashion is art.

It was in 2006.

Pardon me, but I didn't know who Alexander McQueen was. Sure, I could had seen some pieces of his in a page of a Vogue, but I had never sit and watch his work closely.

The first thing that took my attention of that collection was the hair of the models. A friend of mine told me the moment we saw the image of Anna Marya Urazhevskaya wearing one of his Spring ready to wear collection pieces, was that her hair looked like mine recently awaken.
I couldn't help but laugh. But it was truth. And image after image, I don't know if because of the hairdo, I couldn't help but think about that comment and smile.

I know, it wasn't yet about the clothes, but when I got home I began to look some pieces. To look closelly at the collection again and again. And to look for more pics of his work. And I discovered his shoes. I love them. From the simplest piece to the most bizarre thing that he could had marvel.

He was definitely a sculptor of shoes.

Of clothes.

In that collection he was showing us some pieces with a really exaggerated round hips, impossible hats or hairdos, nightdresses with awesome volumes...

A walk throw centuries of fashion taking for me the term of romanticism to a brand new level.

He took my love and admiration for fashion to a brand new level.

He, (with some others) became this girl someone who stopped being a skeptic prune who thought that fashion was for shallow people in someone who could see the art in a piece of cloth.

And I'm never going to be a fashion designer, I found my pleasure and ambition in life in something else, but I'm always going to smile admired when I see my folder of almost 2G filled of pics of his work.

It makes me smile proud seeing how our fashion week had grow so much.
And yes, I said our because I've been attending the last five years without missing a single day, and I kinda feel as if I was part of it.

The ambient was amazing. Thousand of people wearing their best street or party outfits to watch the catwalks. It actually made me wonder for a second why do we dress up to attend a fashion week, but my questions were answered the moment I stepped inside the building when the official cool hunter of the Fashion Week asked me to make a photo. The following three days, coolhunters kept coming to ask you to pose for them, which was what lighted a white bulb in my head and I became aware that the Valencia Fashion Week went big while I was doing something else (God knows what...). But what the hell, there's so much talent here, It took me a couple of years to realize it but I did.

Young people are going big and is a fact.

The first designers I fell in love with were Lola Cuello, Georgina Vendrell and Retal Reciclaje. Ok, maybe you can think it was because the two of them won the Zona D contest, but it wasn't because of that. I sat there, and watch from 11 to 16 30 all of what the designers have to show us, and those three were the best ones.

Once it was over the younger designers time (and I said younger because they firms had just started and that's why they took part in Zona D) and the prices were delivered and my heart was touched watching Georgina Vendrell cry and Gonzalo Miró try to make her talk and give thanks, the Fashion week kept going with Alejandro Saez de la Torre, aka Por Fin!, I'm not a real fan of his work, I love his tights. And what the hell, tights in men are cool.

Really cool.

It reminds me of my time when I used to be a real punk kid with stripped tights and all of my clothes were of jersey material. But said is that I'm not much objective. I had the chance to meet him when I attended the EASD, go to his studio and have a long chat over coffees about his work, his carreer and his experience and life and I think it was the last drop I needed in my glass to drop off the School of Design and look for a new carreer path in the Patterning and sewing. His own curiosity about learning the making of the clothes and not only the designing part helped me to understand myself and why was I so down.

Following him, it came Jose Zambrano. I have friends that know him, I had the chance to listening to him talk with them the following day. His oversized sweater touched my heart, again.

The following favorite in my list was Siglo Cero. All white. The monochromatism took the catwalk the following two hours. First with Siglo Cero and their really cool collection for the next winter with all in white. I couldn't help but think about how would Serial Mom react to this.

But Fashion is made to break frontiers, and they made it with honors. I was mouth hang open all the time, when I thought the dress I was watching was amazing they totally redeemed themselves with the following ones. There was a special light during those ten minutes, that was a fact.

A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!

And the monochromatism took us to another shocking collection making me declare fan of Juan Vidal. I think the photo talks for itself and that I don't need to say anything else, but that his usage of gabardine elements in dresses was one of the best ideas I saw during the fashion week.

The lady in red, ruled the catwalk.

Jaime Piquer, who offers internships in my school too, and that I'm thinking to ask him to internship over his studio this summer, was amazing. Not much objective again, because as I said a friend of mine works in his studio.

And my last but not less favorites were Ion Fitz, the first one of the February 4th, with the ruffles, the bows, laces and his creamy colors amazed me, cause I'm a declared fan already of bows, ruffles and cream;

and Tonuca.

Who took us to a real circus. The hairdos, the colors and the patterning work was impressive. I'm again a fan of how she took the tamer jacket to a brand new level. The real level of it. Without giving it any other cool element, just the model for itself and the color was enough to make everybody clap her and be the second time I stood on my feet for a designer.

I'm not objective again, cause since the first time I saw the designer with her killing blue hair I acted like a teen watching a BSB in a bathroom.

Cause yeah, lots of stuff happen in the bathrooms too, not only in the Kissing area, the backstage or the halls. Years ago, I saw Tonuca in a bathroom of the backstage, this year it was Rosi de Palma. She got in there like any other mortal with a credential to take a pee, and when she got in the stall I knew the door didn't work and I told her "Rosi (Cause we're totally in first name basis right now) that one is broken." and she said "Then, please don't enter." And when people came in I stopped them to get in there. And then she came out and we started acting like crazy fans. Cause well, we're the Almodovar Generation and she's one of his muses who sports killing Loubutins.

Rosi de Palma was here to deliver the jury prices to the designers and introduce us Maya Hansen. Can you be in love with a collection? I kinda felt like cheating on Siglo Cero or Zambrano, but it was the appropriate way to close the Fashion week. It was amazing, the only bad thing I could say about is, did the models need to be so skinny? I mean it, some of them didn't look sexy with those gorgeous pieces of clothes only the ones sporting leggins.

From here, I encourage Maya Hansen to pick normal girls to wear'em. I know a long list of girls who would offer themselves to sport for a couple of minutes her collection and feel like real sexy pseudo punk girls.

Finally, other of my favorite parts of the Fashion week were, besides of the parties all around the city, the Kissing Area. Where you go in there, meet the designers and take photos in the photocall for the press. Yeah, it's kinda fun they take you photos in that wall just because you're in front of it.

And of course the free white wine they delivered to us along the three days. I need to say that one of the reasons, maybe even the only, I got in there was because of the wine, because I've got friends who are real social butterflies and always approach the designers and congratulate them, but I'm unable to do it. I'm just really shy for that. I already knew it but I discovered it along the week. Everytime a coolhunter or someone I didn't know approached me my conversation skills went dumb and I could just say yes to everything I was told, reason on why I took photos for the different Style Lab coolhunters the whole week without knowing.

Me volvi loca por las pajaritas y lazos la temporada pasada, hasta el punto que hice un gran numero con remains de otras cosas que habia cosido.

Y esta temporada no iba a ser menos. He cogido restos de vestidos, bajos de faldas, sobras de sisas, etc y me he pasado media tarde cosiendo mini pajaritas para iluminar los looks de esta primavera, y por que no, lo que quede invierno. Porque lo mejor de los colores y estampados estridentes es que en pequeñas dosis puedes llevarlos todo el año. Si, soy muy clásica y suelo reservar los estampados de colores para los vestidos y shorts en verano.

Lo unico que necesitas es un trozo de tela mayor de 8x8, mas que nada para que la pajarita sea visible y vistosa.

Lo suyo es hacer un rectángulo de por ejemplo 10x5 ó 8x5.

1. Investiga y frunce la tela hasta conseguir el efecto deseado y las medidas deseadas.

2. Recortar el pedazo que deseamos dos veces, dejando un margen de costura de 1cm por todos los lados. Es importante que marques la linea de costura ya que la gracia de las pajaritas es que las lineas sean rectas.

3. Cose los rectángulos por la linea de costura dejando sin coser un espacio lo suficientemente grande para que te quepan dos dedos.

4. Una vez cosido, recorta 0'5cm del margen de costura.

5. Vuelve el rectangulo del reves asi estara del derecho.

6. Cose a mano el trozito que queda.

7. Plancha el rectángulo hasta que quede recto.

8. Mide la circunferencia de tu cuello y haz una tira de 5cm mas larga. Recuerda que la tirita ha de ser fina, mi consejo si no sabes mucho de costura es que utilices un lazo o cinta fina. De esas que venden en las mercerias, son baratas y el resultado sera mucho mejor.

9. Cose un corchete a mano en cada lado de la cinta. A una medida que no te sea molesta, por eso la cinta es 5cm mas larga.

10. Saca una tira ancha de la misma tela de la pajarita.

11. Frunce el rectángulo por el medio para darle el efecto deseado y sujétalo con la tirita ancha y cóselo a mano por la parte de atras.

12. Une esta tirita a la cinta por el medio.

Et, voila. Ya tienes tu pajarita... o lacito. Lo que tu prefieras ;D

Recuerda, que si quieres un broche o un gancho para el pelo solo tienes que eliminar la tirita del cuello y añadir un imperdible o una horquilla.

I was mad about bows last season, I did a lot of them with remains of things I had sew. And this season wouldn't be less. I took rests of dresses, hems of skirts and other different remains so I spent half of the afternoon making bows for light the looks of this spring, and what the heck, for the rest of the winter, cause I think there's nothing better than a touch of color in a dark outfit. Yeah, I'm kinda classic and I use to wear dark clothes in winter.

The only thing you need is a piece of fabric bigger than 8x8cm, because if not, the bow wouldn't be enough eye catching. You need to make a rectangle of around 10x5 or 8x5 (Always in cm)

1. Cut the piece you want twice, leaving a sewing hem of 1cm in every side of the rectangle. Is important you mark the sewing line, because this way you would be able to sew straight lines with this help.

2. Sew the rectangles over the sewing line, setting the fabric face to face and leaving a space without sewing so you could introduce your fingers inside and turn the fabric upside-down. 3. Once you had sew it, cut 0.5cm of the sewing line and turn the rectangle upside down and sew by hand the space left. Afterwards, iron the rectangle.

4. Measure your neck circumference and and use a thin lace to make a strip 5cm longer and sew a hook and eye in the hems of it.

5. Make a shorter of around 5x3cm strip of the same fabric as the bow.

6. Gather the rectangle in the middle of it with the help of the strip and give it the desired touch. Sew it by hand in the back of the bow.

7. Sew together the strip and the bow. And you have your own bow tie, bow.

Remember that if you eliminate the strip you can also make a cute hair slide or brooch. You just need to sew the bow to a pin or a hair pin.

Los aseos

El aseo es un trozo de tela que sirve para ocultar costuras en zonas donde se verian mal como por ejemplo una cintura, una sisa o un cuello. Fijate en cualquiera de tus vestidos de tirantes. Es muy posible que haya en el interior un trozo de tela que tiene la misma forma y normalmente del mismo material que la prenda en si.

Bueno, pues normalmente suelen medir entre 3 y 10 cm de ancho, dependiendo de la zona. En el caso de la falda, lo pondremos en la cintura.

1. Marca en tu patron 5 cm de ancho desde la cintura hacia abajo.

2. Haz una linea no del todo recta puesto que si no quedara mal. Dale un poco de pronunciacion en un lado como hicimos con la cintura. Para esto utiliza la regla Burmester o de curvas.

3. Calca la pieza resultante marcando tambien la pinza.

4. Dobla por la linea de la pinza. Ahora tendras una pieza que en la parte de arriba, es decir, la cintura, medira lo que medira nuestra falda una vez hayas metido la pinza al coser.

5. Recorta la pieza dos veces y doble, como hicimos con la falda en su dia. El lado de la doblez sera el lado donde ira el canto del patron.

Ya tienes tu aseo. Lo mismo vale para la sisa o cualquier otro elemento que precise de una ayuda estetica.

Recuerda, el aseo va por dentro de la prenda, es decir, no se vera por fuera.

Mañana sin falta como coser la falda recta.

Finalmente mientras cosia el domingo me decidi ha hacer las fotos y subirlas.

Ya hemos cortado los patrones, asi que coser la falda es realmente fácil.

Instrucciones:
1. Coser las cuatro pinzas. Es sencillo, solo tienes que juntar los dos cantos y coser por la linea como aparece en la foto de al lado.

2. Planchar las pinzas. Se plancharan hacia un costado, es decir, doblando la tela de la pinza hacia un lado y planchando hasta que el triangulito (Que es la pinza) se quede a ese lado.

3. Una vez cosidas y planchadas todas las pinzas colocaremos el aseo. Para colocarlo lo pondremos derecho con derecho y coseremos por el lado del reves.
Una vez cosido, lo meteremos todo hacia dentro y plancharemos las costuras y el aseo para que se quede por la parte de dentro.

4. Colocar la cremallera invisible en el lado de la cremallera.

5. Plancharemos las costuras. Esta vez, las abriremos a los lados, es decir, doblando el lado derecho sobre el lado derecho y el izquierdo sobre el izquierdo, y plancharemos. No te preocupes por la cremallera, no pasa nada si planchas por encima.

6. Coseremos el otro costado de la falda. La colocacion de la tela sera derecho con derecho otra vez, asi pues coseremos por el reves de la falda para que la costura se quede por dentro.

7 Planchar las costuras.

8. Coser el bajo a la medida deseada.

9. Planchar la prenda repasando las costuras y la falda en si. Si la has sobado mucho, deberias lavarla y luego planchar otra vez sobre las costura.

Y ya esta tu falda.

Como cortar la falda/How to cut the skirt

Lo primero que necesitas tener en cuenta siempre que hagas un patron es que luego la coseremos, por lo que debes dejar un margen de costura.

SIEMPRE.

El margen de costura adecuado es de un centimetro para los costados y dos centimetros para el bajo y la cintura.

En el caso de la falda, los pasos a seguir son los siguientes:

1) Doblar la tela por la mitad, dejando el derecho en el interior. La parte donde aparece la doblez, la llamamos lomo.

2) Colocar el patron por la parte recta contra el lomo.

3) Sujetar con alfileres. Utilizar los minimos posibles, porque dependiendo de la tela se quedaran mas o menos agujeros.

4) Utilizar un lapiz, boli bic o una tiza para tela para marcar el patron en la tela.

5) Antes de cortar,deberas marcar otra linea de 1cm en los costados y 2cm en el bajo y la cintura. Recuerda que no has de marcar en el lado doblado de la tela, ya que este servira como lado per se.

6) Ahora recortar por la linea de fuera. Asi tendras un margen de costura.

NO CORTAR EL LADO DOBLE.

NO VACIES LA PINZA, LO QUE QUIERO DECIR ES QUE NO DEBES RECORTARLA!!!

The first thing you need to remember is that when you do a pattern is that afterwards you're going to sew it, so you need to leave an space for this matter, a space that is called cutting space.

ALWAYS REMEMBER TO LEAVE IT.

The suitable seam allowance is of 1cm in the sides and two in the hem and the waist.
Speaking about the skirt, we're going to follow this steps:

1) Fold the fabric, leaving the good side in the inside.

2) Set the pattern, I mean, put the straight side of the pattern against the fold line. The goal of this is to have a pattern piece that is cut out without a center seam.

3) Fasten the pattern against the fabric with pins. Try to use the less possible because if not you can leave holes.

4) Use a pencil to mark over the fabric the sides of the pattern. Remember to don't mark the fold line because you're not going to cut over it.

5) Before cutting you should mark another line of 1 cm next to the sides and 2cm in the hem and waist. Forget about the fold line.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO MARK ANYTHING THERE.

6) Now you should cut over the cutting lines. DON'T CUT THE FOLDED SIDE!!

DON'T CUT THE DART!!!

Volantes/ Ruffles.

Se que dije que postearia pronto como coser la falda, pero mi camara de fotos murio ayer definitivamente por lo que aun tardare un pokiu. Ademas ultimamente he estado super ocupada. Por fin y poco a poco voy haciendo cosas a toooda esa gente que lleva años pidiendome que cosa para ellos y es super gratificante ver a alguien sonreir por algo que tu has diseñado y cosido.

Se que puede no tener mucho merito porque estoy con familiares y amigas aun, la misma gente que durante muchos años, me han regalado los oidos con la tipica frase de "Me encanta, yo no lo llevaria, pero oye chica, a ti como que te pega..." asi que es muy posible que no les guste lo que hago, pero bueno, al menos se lo ponen y lo intentan. Y me encanta que empiecen a comprar y hacerme mas pedidos de las pequeñas cosas que hago.

A lo que ibamos, ayer estaba cosiendo una falda para una buena amiga que amaba un vestido que tenia. Ha sido mas o menos un Vestido gone falda. Y cuando acabe me di cuenta de dos cosas, que como que estaba un poquillo sosa y como que tenia tela de sobra para hacer algo mas. Y se me ocurrio coserle volantes en la cintura.

Asi fue como nacio este post, Como hacer el patron de los volantes.

Materiales:

Regla, escuadra y un lapiz. (Y papel, obvio.)

1. Crearemos un rectangulo de 1/4 de la superficie a cubrir x largo deseado del volante.

2. Subdividimos el rectangulo en tres trozos iguales.

3. Colocamos la escuadra en el vertice del primer rectangulo y escuadramos a ambos lados (Linea roja.) Creando un nuevo rectangulo como en la figura siguiente.

3. Repitiendo la accion otra vez, tendremos nuestro volante. (Figura en rojo)

4. Ahora solo necesitas afinar los cantos, es decir redondearlos un poco para que no quede tan marcados... o lo que tu mas prefieras.

Y pronto espero poder cortar y coser una falda para colgar aqui. Supongo que este fin de semana estare menos ahogada... o se rompera mi maquina industrial, que vuelve ha hacer ese chu chu noise que me dice que va a morir pronto. Whatever happens first ;D

De todas formas durante la semana posteare sobre los aseos porque los necesitaremos para coser la falda recta, y lo olvide :D

I know I said I would post soon or later how to cut and sew the skirt. I'm working on it but you don't have a single idea on how busy I had been lately. Mostly sewing for people who has been asking me to do something for them since I started to study fashion design and now I can finally start doing things for friends and all. And I'm very happy about the results and how people is reacting to my little new adventure. I love you guys like what I do, and I love you read me and that you also are starting to buy some of the things I'm doing. Good stuff, always. Well, yesterday, I was sewing a straight skirt for a friend of mine but well, I couldn't help but see it kinda sober so I decided to make some ruffles and today, when I was finishing it I thought I should post it in the blog, because I suppose it's something really useful to know how to make them.

You are going to need: A square. A rule A pencil.

How you do it?

1.Is kinda easy. You just need to make a straight line that measures the half of the total of what you want to cover. For example, if is the waist, then you should put a quarter of the waist. If is the hips, the same. 2. Create a rectangle with this line, the sides would be the long of what you want the ruffle. 3. Divide the line in for example three equal segments. 4. You get the square and put it like in the second image. And create the angle with your pencil. And later you make a rectangle.

5. Repeat the fourth action again.

Well, soon or later I would post the skirt, but as I said I'm kinda busy, but I hope this weekend i would be able to make it...

In anyway until then, I would try to post something about Appliques and Clean edges. Because we also would need it for sewing the skirt :D and I totally forgot about it.

La falda elástica/ Elastic skirt

Me olvide de escribir sobre como hacer la falda elastica, y como esta de moda esta temporada, supongo que habra quien quiera hacerse una falda recta, pero elastica.

Asi que aqui esta la formula:

Cintura: La mitad de la medida de la cintura x 100 / 25+100

Cadera: La mitad de la medida de la cadera x 100/ 25+100

Dividiendo el resultado por dos, tendremos las nuevas medidas de cadera y cintura.

Cuando acabe los examenes intenatare subir como cortar y coser la falda.

NOTA: OLVIDATE DE LA PINZA, LA DISTANCIA (10",10) LA PONDREMOS EN EL COSTADO. ACUERDATE DE NO HACER LA CURVA MUY PRONUNCIADA.

I totally forgot to write about the measurements for the elastic skirt. And like that kind of fabrics are totally in this season, here it comes the formula:

Waist: Half of waist measurement x 100/25+100

Hips: Half of hips measurement x 100 / 25 x 100.

Dividing the results for two you have the new measurements to use in every step.

NOTE: FORGET THE STEPS 6,7 AND 8. You have to put the distance (10",10') in the side, but remember to don't make the curve too sharp.

La falda recta, ademas de un basico y facil de hacer, es el patron base para todas las faldas. Con esto queremos decir que casi qualquier falda que quieras hacer partira de esta.

Materiales:

Papel de patron. (Lo venden en casi todas las papelerias, suele ser marron o blanco.)

Lápiz.

Medidas de cadera, cintura y largo deseado de falda (Llamado en las instrucciones 7a vertical, algun dia explicaremos lo que esto es.)

Una regla de curvas Burmester

RECUERDA: NO HAGAS LAS LINEAS CURVAS MUY PRONUNCIADAS O QUEDARA MAL!

4) In the half of (6,7) we mark the point 8.

5) The line (1,10) is the half of (1,8)

6) The distance (10,11) is the half of the distance (1,3).

8) With the curves' ruler, create the line (9,10")

9) With the same ruler mark the curve (9,4)

La cremallera invisible o como perder la cabeza.

Necesitaremos:

Prensatelas para cremallera invisible. És el que tiene unos pequeños dientes.
La cremallera invisible.
Dos retales de tela vieja.

Instrucciones:

Saber coser una cremallera invisble, es casi una odisea.
Al menos, lo fue para mi.
Tarde tres clases de costura, de tres horas y aun asi, aun me cuesta un poquillo coserla bien a la primera, asi que paciencia.

En primer lugar, necesitas el prensatelas para cremallera invisible. Asi que cambia el prensatelas.

Una vez cambiado, la colocacion de la tela. Es sencillo, derecho de la tela contra derecho de la cremallera.

No hay mas.

Lo dificil viene ahora. Coser la cremallera al filo sin subirte por encima de los dientes. Deberas montar el prensatelas sobre los railes de la cremallera. Observaras que tiene como dos puentecitos, ahi introduciremos los railes.
Asi pues, tendras que is abriendo la misma para asegurarte de que no te subes.

Parece sencillo, pero pasa.
Y mucho.
Te pasara bastantes veces hasta que consigas que quede bien, y es muy posible que despues de haber cosido la misma cremallera una y otra vez quede inservible, de ahi que utilizemos dos retales viejos de tela y tambien una cremallera que no sea la destinada a la prenda en cuestion.

Os preguntareis, ¿y para que quiero saber como coserla? Facil, saber coser una cremallera invisible nos va a ahorrar mucho trabajo, puesto que luego se colocaran en vestidos, faldas e incluso pantalones.

Asi que practica, practica. Y paciencia... muchisima paciencia.

Porque el patron de falda recta, llegara pronto... muy pronto.

Instructions:

Learn how to sew an invisible zip is almost an Odyssey. At least it was for us. Three sewing classes and still you gotta have patience.

First of all, you need the appropriate foot for the zip, so change it.

Once you did this, you have to set the fabric. Is easy. The good side of the fabric goes against the good side of the zip (See Fig. 1.1)

The difficult part comes now. Sew it to the end of the zip without going over the teeth. You should set the foot on the rails of the zip. You can see that it has two little points, is like a train.

The only thing you have to do now, is open the foot at every step to make sure you don't get on the top of the teeth.

Seems easy and stupid, but it happens.

A lot.

It would happen to you thousand of times until it looks good enough for a C. And maybe after having sew the zip again and again it could end up being useless. That's why we use old fabric to sew it and also the zip you're going to use is not going to be the one for the cloth, it's a training zip.

You are maybe asking yourself, Why do I need to know how to sew this? Simple, knowing how to sew an invisible zip is going to save us a lot of work because afterwards you're going to put it in dresses, skirts and even pants.

So... train, train and train. And be patient... a lot of patient.

Lo primero que necesitamos, es conocer las medidas estandar para tallas. Con esta guia, sabremos las medidas que corresponden a nuestra talla. Aunque cómo habreis observado millones de veces, lo mismo tienes una 36 que una 38. (Mi teoria es que las tiendas hacen esto para que te tomes tu tiempo comprando yendo i viniendo de los probadores. No my teoria, es algo de la Psicologia de la percepcion. Fijate en una tienda y veras la de cosas chulas que hay en el camino hacia los probadores, yo he perdido la cuenta de las veces que he cogido algo antes de llegar.)

Como podeis observar hay un incremento de centimetros respecto a una talla y otra.

Ej. Para la talla 40, el contorno de busto son 76 cm, en la siguiente talla, la 42. El contorno de busto son 80. El incremento entre una talla y otra es de 4cm. Por lo que si tu talla es la 38, solo tendras que restarle 4cm a la talla 40. Y 8 cm si tu talla es la 36.

Pero, como cada persona es un mundo, os aconsejo mediros con anterioridad. En diversas paginas podreis encontrar tutoriales para tomar medidas.

P.D. No os asusteis si el resultado no es tu talla real. La talla comercial es solo para orientacion. Aunque no deberia ser asi, me cabrea que vayas a comprar algo y te hagan creer que eres la 36 cuando eres una 38. ¿Seria tan complicado seguir la normalizacion de tallas? Ya lo se, se que hay un factor psicologico del cliente, recuerdo que lo di en alguna clase en la escuela, algo asi como que estas mas predispuesto a comprar si tienes una talla mas pequeña de la que te esperaba. Los niveles de serotonina o algo asi

El primer patron. La Falda Recta. Es facil, sencillo y algo necesario de saber. Pero hasta que tenga todo el material preparado, tomaros las medidas de cintura, cadera y 7a cervical.

First of all. You need to know the standard measurements for sizes. With this guide, you can get an idea on which measurements match our size. As you can see thousand of times, sometimes you're a 38 and other times a 36. (My theory is that the shops do this because this way you gotta take your time buying. Not my theory, something about psychology of behaviour. Take a look to a shop, they're a lot of cute things in the way of the changing rooms. I lost the count of times I pick up something before get in a changing room)

Anyway, as you can see there's an incrementation between a size and another.

Ex. For the size 40, the fullest part of the bust are 76cm, in the following one, the 42, the fullest part of the bust are 80. So between a size and the following one, there's 4cm. So if your size is the 38 you gotta rest 4cm to the size 40. And 8 cm if your size is the 36 and so on...

But everyone is different, so you better take measurements first. You could find different pages where you can find tutorials for taking measurements.

From here, everything is starting...

P.S This sizes are sightly normalized. In the last row I put the commercial size. The Commercial size is the size we buy in the shops... or in some of them. So you better take measurements.

Note: Don't freak out if the result is not your size. The Commercial size is just for orientation. This makes me sick, cuz you go and buy something and they make you think you're a 36 when in truth you're a size 38. Would it be so complicated to set sizes for everybody? Yeah, sure. I know there's a psychological factor of the customer. I remember in class they explained us that psychologically you're more predisposed (Is that a real word?? Whatever, I'm sick tired of dictionaries.) to buy if you have a smaller size than you thought. I suppose is all about the Serotonin levels...

P.S.2 Sorry for the readers who are from an English speaking country. My English isn't really good when it comes to writing, and I have no idea on how your measurement system works.
I do, but my Spanish brain doesn't find a sense to it.
I'm gonna try to make the patterns in both systems but I can't promise you anything. Actually, I'm not promising you anything.
